The Modular Integrated Communications Helmet (MICH) was developed by the US Special Operations Forces Special Projects Team in Natick, Mass., to replace the PASGT helmet for the US Special Forces personnel who must often wear extensive communication equipment.  The higher cut of the helmet allows the user to have a full range of motion even while wearing complete load bearing systems and body armour.  It also allows targets to be engaged from the prone position, while wearing the aforementioned gear as well as night vision gear mounted, which was impossible with the PASGT helmet.

Besides its level IIIA ballistic protection against bullets (124gr 9mm at 1400fps) and shrapnel (17gr FSP at 2150fps), it is also the only ballistic helmet within Special Operations Command (SOCOM) to be authorized for use with motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles.  The helmet allows for the integration of approximately 30 communications platforms specific to the special operations community, including fixed and rotary wing aircraft intercom systems, boat intercom systems, ground-mobility vehicle intercom systems, and many commercial and military specific radios.

It is currently in use by all SOCOM units, including Rangers, Special Forces, Navy SEALs and Air Special Operations, as well as USMC Recon units, FBI Hostage Rescue Teams, and the 82nd Airborne Division.  It is compatible with the parachutists' free-fall oxygen masks and consistently performs in all environmental conditions from -40 to +70 degrees celcius.

Besides the excellent four-point harness system with neck pad and chin cup, this helmet features the new 7-pad foam suspension system.  This enormously versatile system is not only many times more comfortable then the standard webbing suspension system, but also allows for much better adjustment to head shape and size, assuring the best fitting combat helmet you have ever worn!  Weight is approximately 1.1 kg (2.4 lbs).
